GIVES MORE THAN $690,000

TO LOCAL NON-PROFITS

Nashville, Tenn.  April , 2010 -- The Greater Nashville Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® awarded 13 Middle Tennessee non-profits more than $690,000 in grants. The grants will help fund community initiatives dedicated to raising awareness, providing screenings and treating breast cancer.

The 2010-11 grantees include: American Cancer Society;  Bastion, Inc.; Gilda’s Club Nashville, Friends In General; Meharry Medical College; Metro Public Health Department; Middle Tennessee Medical Center; The Minnie Pearl Cancer Foundation; Primary Care & Hope Clinic; Saint Thomas Health Services West; Siloam Family Health Center;  Tennessee Department of Public Health; YMCA of Middle Tennessee. 

“All these organizations work diligently to address the breast health needs of the underserved population throughout Middle Tennessee and Komen Greater Nashville is pleased to support our fellow non-profits,” said Kathy Parolini, executive director of Greater Nashville Affiliate Susan G. Komen for the Cure. “All of these amazing organizations provide much needed services that range from offering free mammograms through the Friends In General Mammograms in May program to providing rural transportation assistance through the Minnie Pearl Cancer Center.” 

The largest percentage of money raised for Komen Greater Nashville is the organization’s annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure event that is scheduled for October 9, 2010 in Maryland Farms. “Our annual events and generous donors make it possible for us to give so much money to local organizations that need additional funding,” said Parolini.
